The Silent Storm (2014, Neon Films)
In 2014, Alastair finished writing and recording the music for The Silent Storm – a feature film starring Damian Lewis and Andrea Riseborough. The Silent Storm was directed by Corinna McFarlane and produced by Nicky Bentham of Neon Films and Barbara Broccoli of West End Films.
Alastair worked very closely with the director throughout the filming and edit process of the film to bring about an evocative musical portrayal of tempestuous life on a remote Scottish Island in the 1950's. The music comprised a lot of Alastair's solo fiddle playing, combined with a 24 piece string orchestra and the choir of The Joyful Company of Singers. The score was recorded in Abbey Road Studios, conducted by Peter Broadbent and Geoffrey Alexander.
The film premiered at the London film festival, earning a four-star review in The Times and an impressive 7.6 IMDb rating.
